Trait information

Trait: Aleurone colour

The barley grain aleurone varies for the absence or increasing presence of blue colouration.  A Mendelian genetic locus controlling this trait has been identified on chromosmoe 4H, termed BLX1, with dominant alleles confering the presence of colouration.

This triat is scored during national varietal registration trials, as described by UPOV guidelines: "Kernel:colour of aleurone colour" (UPOV character 28. Scores: 1 = white, 2 = weakly coloured, 3 = strongly coloured [blue]).
